Printed cloths with Adinkra symbols
The cloths in Accra
For Constellations Part 2 at Gallery 1957 in Accra, Jasper’s printed cloths hung from steel rails against the gallery’s raw plaster walls. Each cloth carries a Ghanaian symbol and its meaning, including Sankofa, “Go back and get it,” and Funtunfunefu, the Siamese crocodile.
The cloths share their visual language with Lessons from Granny, his research into making Adinkra and Anlo-Ewe symbols visible again through cloth.
